What is community service? Community service is voluntary work intended to help people in a particular area. When most people hear community service they think you have gotten into some sort of trouble and you have to pay your debt to society. In reality you can do community service just because, and it would be the right thing to do. Yeah it can be boring at some points but it could also be really fun depending on who you are, who you're doing it for and over all what you're doing.

For my community service hours, I volunteered with Mr. Rossi and Mrs. Hamblin. Both are teachers at Fowler high school. Doing my community service for them was two different experiences but if was fairly easy because all I had to do was stay after school. They don't have a mission statement exactly, but to me what they do for the community and the students of Fowler high is important. Yes, it provides entertainment, but it is so much more than that. What they do for the kids in the play is give them an opportunity to learn how to work with others, do something they might love, meet new people and be in an environment that they are comfortable in and know that they can be themselves. There's a need for this because there aren't too many people teen nowadays feel they can be themselves around, in school at that. They feel like they have to put on a front but they really don't, because they're able to be themselves and know they wont get judged or treated differently. I feel this is very important because we all need that one place or person that we fell comfortable with and around. There aren't too many people and places that provide that.

I did different things for the both of them but over all it was still really fun and easy. For Mr. Rossi all I really did was be in charge of the ticket sales and sell snacks at the concession stands. Before the Play started I sat outside of the doors and either took prepaid tickets or sold them. Then handed out a program about the play. When I sold stuff at the concession stand, that's exactly what I did was sell snacks before, during and after the play. It was pretty fun. Then for Mrs. Hamblin I cleaned up her class room after the play and later in the week. I cleaned make up and stuff off the desks, Swept up her floor helped her put up the costumes. Just over all I helped her get her classroom ready for her classes the following school day.

Volunteering for them both; over all I felt pretty helpful. The things that had to get done got done a lot faster. It impacted them positively because it was one less thing that they had to worry about. They knew they could trust be and what had to be done would get done.

I personally loved doing my community service hours. I feel like I helped a lot and I met a lot of new people. I met people that I am now very good friends with and built stronger relationship with people I already knew. I would defiantly recommend doing community service for them. Its fun, easy and you're welcome with open arms and not judged. You can happily and easily be yourself.
